at wal-mart, anything is possible. it amazes me the level you can connect with perfect strangers while perusing the aisles. i was picking up a few things tonight for allyson, and while i was on the band-aid aisle, i met some new friends...or family? there was a trendy little couple with there trendy little kid. i thought to myself, cute kid. then it got awkward. the boy pointed his finger at me and said in his best 18 month old english, "jens!" then mom says, "haha, he must think you're his uncle jens!" i say, "cute kid", then continue fumbling through boxes of band-aids. the boy, still pointing, yells more enthusiastically, "jens!", while adoring parents again inform me that i look like uncle jens. you just told me that. i was starting to get a little uncomfortable and i was having a hard time focusing on the band-aids. as the boy continues to beckon me, the parents think it's cuter and cuter. then things make a more awkward turn. "hold you?", the boy requests. no thanks, i think to myself, as the mom hands him to me. what the heck people, don't you know i'm crazy? luckily my hands were full so i could just shake his hand a little. how do you respond to a perfect stranger handing you their baby? i told them again that they have a cute kid, then (not waiting for their response) grab some band-aids, turn and walk away. needless to say, we are having them over for thanksgiving this year.

Are you serious? Was Evie with you? You always have the most random things happen to you, Uncle Jens.
Are you really having them over for Thanksgiving?
you should have taken the baby when they tried to let you hold him. then ran off, and then turned around and said "just kidding" and then given them a lecture about the dangers handing their baby off to strange men.
no, jess, we're not having them for thanksgiving and i was by myself. i always have those awkward encounters. anitra, i am going to be teaching stranger danger classes starting next week. everyone's invited.
Too Funny! You must have some sort of radar for those awkward moments. By the way, how is allyson doing? I should come visit her with some treats...I haven't seen her in so long.

Some people are so random. Seriously, your blog is always giving me a good laugh. How do you have these things happen to you all the time? What were those parents thinking? They were actually going to hand you the child? Crazy! But, funny nontheless.
great story. I know it was awkward...but look at how many people you made laugh yet again. So thank you!! :)
