beep.

i'm not a pleasant person when i am abruptly woken up, just ask allyson.

one thing in life that i will never understand is why dying batteries in smoke alarms decide to beep at 2:30 in the morning? it's not the first time it's happened. and there never seems to be a pattern to when it beeps. i'm convinced the alarm waits until i'm back in bed, waits five seconds, and then beeps. i got up twice last night to figure out which one of the six smoke alarms upstairs was beeping. that's right, i said six; you never can be too prepared when it comes to fire safety (but seriously, they were all installed when we moved in. i don't really know the first thing about fire safety.) and unless you catch the offending alarm in the act, you will never know which one is beeping.

when you finally figure out which alarm needs to die, you rip that battery out thinking you finally killed the little life it had left. until you get back in bed...and it beeps. it's either possessed or has some mystery backup battery. regardless, it's not going down without a fight. you sit there on the couch rocking until it finally let's out one last cry. beep. it has used up it's last ounce of energy. in that liberating moment, a single tear falls down your cheek and you realize it can't hurt you anymore, but you're still too afraid to move.

we live in a really sick world.

Amen. Ours went out a few weeks ago, (in the middle of the night, of course!) and Bart had to go downstairs to "battle" it out. Needless to say, that thing is still a wounded soldier. (We still need to put it back on the ceiling.)

Thanks for making me laugh! Ours always go off in the night too! Kevin can't hear the beep very well so it is usually me trying to figure out which alarm is beeping. Great post! Hopefully you can sleep tonight.

Is the title of your post supposed to be the smoke alarm beep or a bad word being edited? Either way, you will be happy to know I prepared Al for living with someone that is not happy about being woken up in the middle of the night. you can ask her about it. (:

Seriously ours went off in the middle of the night for one second and it totally freaked me out. Then the other night my lamp fell over and I was sure someone had just broken in.

Here's to a better night tonight!!

Haha! That's funny. I got a kick out of this post-it is all too painfully true!
