Birthdays

Greg's birthday was on July 14th! He likes everything real low-key, but Evie and I always have to do a fun sign :)

Every year, I seem to be scrambling to find gifts (usually clothes) that he doesn't really need or want just so he can have presents to open. But not this year--I let Evie do the choosing. She went with a huge lego set. I was a bit hesitant because Greg is a grown man, but Evie was sure he would like it.......she was right! He said it was the best present he'd ever received. He had flashbacks of wanting similar sets as a kid; his mom, like every mom, always said there were too many tiny pieces to lose. Greg and Evie (and even me, on occasion) have had hours of fun building and playing! I have made a mental note that in the future, toys are the way to go--Boys will be Boys!!!
I also had a birthday on August 23rd. Mine was the dreaded "30"...which actually wasn't dreaded at all :) Greg knows that I love love love my birthday and so he went all out for my 30th. 30 days before my birthday he came home with this cake and a letter from him--and then I received a new letter from a loved one each day until my birthday. It was so fun! We also did something each weekend leading up to the big day--movies, dinner, frozen yogurt--I loved it!
Then on the actual day, I woke up to this cute sign and unwrapped this dress and these shoes--i couldn't believe he picked them out by himself ...Evie must have had some say in the matter :)
That day, I went on a morning bike-ride with Evie, met Greg for lunch, enjoyed phone calls and visits from friends and family, went to Red Robin for dinner, followed by some bowling. It was the perfect day!!!
And then cake #2 :). Greg and I love creating ice cream cakes, and this might have been one of our best: Chocolate cake layered with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and oreo crumbs, topped with cool whip. It was to die for!
Now I need to start thinking about Greg's 30th next year?? I'm not sure I can top the letters, but I'm going to try!
