Valentines...late, I know!

So, it's March and I'm barely posting Valentine's pics--Better late than never, right?
Valentine's Cookie Decorating! I attempted making my mom's sugar cookie recipe this year and it was less than successful. I decided to make a double batch, which makes a gazillion cookies, so we could take them to people. Well, the dough was going very smoothly until the flour went in. Instead of gradually adding the flour, like a veteran baker, I measured all 9 cups and dumped it in. As I was mixing, I noticed that the blob had more of a brown sugar consistency than smooth, soft dough. I called my mom and she explained that she usually adds more like 7 or 8 cups and then the last cup while rolling out the dough, if necessary. Needless to say, I was not happy. I proceeded to take the mass of dough and chuck it in the garbage. The last thing I wanted to do was make more dough, but Evie was still waiting for the promised cookies, so I managed to scramble together enough ingredients for 1/2 a batch and went forward. I was very careful in adding the flour this time, but the dough still seemed overly dry. Ugh! The morals of the story are: 1-don't ever try your mother's recipes and expect them to turn out like hers and 2-frosting can fix anything...even a cookie that tastes like a paper plate!

I'm sure you're having a hard time deciphering between Greg's cookies and Evie's masterpieces!

These pics of Evie crack me up! She was in heaven with all the cookies and candy!

Greg came home from work with these gorgeous flowers for his girls. (Evie felt very special that the flowers were for her, too.) Most of the time I think flowers are a waste of money. I think, "Hmmm, I could buy a shirt for $15-20...and it won't die in a few days." But no matter how many times I tell myself that, I still love getting roses. I wasn't expecting these at all, and it was such a nice surprise. I kept them on the table until the very last one died.

That last comment was from Jess not Kev. I didn't realize he had his account open. You know how good Kevin is at reading on myfamily, so I'm sure you were surprised to get a comment from him. :)

greg -easy on the conversation hearts. you could learn a thing or two from evie who has decorated her cookies nice and neat!!

and i'm like evie, the more frosting on the face, the better the cookie tastes.

Yeah! Love Valentine's Day. just love it. i am glad everything worked out with your cookies in the end. I think sugarcookies are so time consuming anyways (even though they are a fun thing to do), and then to have to make 2 batchs . . ugg! But, way to be a good mom and do it for Evie. It looks like it turned out to be a fun day.
